Nayan Ghosh – Sitar & Prabhu Edouard – Tabla
seront en concert à partir de la semaine prochaine en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas (dates et lieux ci-dessous).

Two-in-one Pandit : Nayan Ghosh (1956) est une figure exceptionnelle de la scène musicale classique indienne en ceci qu’il est reconnu par ses pairs comme maître autant du tabla, instrument à percussion sur lequel il a accompagné les plus grands solistes dès son plus jeune âge, que du sitar, instrument à cordes emblématique de la musique indienne, où la concurrence pourtant ne manque pas.
Nayan Ghosh est le fils du légendaire tabliste Nikhil Ghosh et le neveu de Pannalal Ghosh qui a donné ses lettres de noblesse à la flûte en en faisant un instrument de concert. Il ne le signale pas dans sa notice biographique, il est aussi le grand frère de Dhruba Ghosh, joueur de sarangi.

Nayan Ghosh sera accompagné par Prabhu Edouard, disciple de Shankar Ghosh, dont l’horizon musical ne connaît ni frontières ni concessions. Qu’on en juge par l’éclectisme de (quelques-unes de) ses coopérations : Jordi Savall, Nguyen Lê, Mario Laghina, Moriba Koïta, Saïd Shraïbi, Kudsi Erguner, Jamchid Chemirani, J.-P. Drouet, et récemment Vijay Iyer et Rudresh Mahantappa !

Born in 1956, Pandit Nayan Ghosh is acclaimed in India and around the world as one of India’s foremost musicians, with an unusual dimension – the only maestro with superlative command on two diverse instruments the Sitar and the Tabla. Artistic brilliance, rich repertoire and a magnificence of tone are his hallmarks. Deeply loved by the seniormost stalwarts of the music scene like Ravi Shankar, Yehudi Menuhin, Vilayat Khan, the legendary Ahmedjan Thirakwa and many others besides enjoying an unusually high level of respect from all his contemporaries and younger musicians, he is already held as an important reference source for a whole new generation of music seekers.
Son and disciple of the 20th century Tabla wizard Nikhil Ghosh and nephew of Pannalal Ghosh, “the Father of Indian Classical Flute”, Nayan has inherited the rich and learned legacy from his five or six predecessors and carries it with a dignity and grace that is rare.
His sitar recitals sparkle with intense melodiousness and rich delineations, bringing out the depth and the true spirit of the raga. His judicious balance of the gayaki (vocalisation) and the tantrakari (instrumentation) elements reveal his unswerving focus on musical form and beauty.

Voor meester Nayan Ghosh (1956) zijn alleen superlatieven genoeg. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de beste muzikanten uit India, niet alleen door het journaille, maar ook door grootheden als Ravi Shankar, en de inmiddels overleden Vilayat Khan en Yehudi Menuhin. Hij is zowel fenomenaal speler op de sitar als op de tabla.
De sitarconcerten van Nayan Ghosh staan bekend als sprankelend en buitengewoon melodieus. Hij weet met zijn intense spel vol rijke schakeringen de diepte en de geest van iedere raga als geen ander naar boven te brengen. Hier geldt: geen glans zonder diepgang.
Nayan Ghosh wordt begeleid door Prabhu Edouard tablavirtuoos zonder grenzen, leerling van Shankar Ghosh. Als veelzijdige percussionist werkte hij ook samen met Jordi Savall, Nguyen Lê, Mario Laghina, Moriba Koïta, Saïd Shraïbi, Kudsi Erguner, Jamchid Chemirani, J.-P. Drouet, en onlangs met Vijay Iyer en Rudresh Mahantappa !
